Executive and Management

Denis Taschuk CA – Director, President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Taschuk has over twenty five years business experience including corporate strategy development, manufacturing, market development and finance.
Prior to Radient, Mr. Taschuk was a partner and CEO of JAG Flocomponents LP. 
JAG Flocomponents LP manufactured industrial valves with operations in six countries and customers in over twenty countries.
During his time with JAG Flocomponents, he oversaw the expansion of the Company into international markets.
Mr. Taschuk is also a Director of Tyhee Gold Corp. (TDC: TSX.V) and was previously a Director of the International Diabetes Federation and a Director and Chair of the Board of the Canadian Diabetes Association. 
Mr. Taschuk is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Alberta.

Steven Splinter, PhD. – Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Splinter was the founding President of Radient. He is experienced in strategic planning, technical assessment and development of process technologies, business leadership, and engineering project management. Prior to founding Radient, Dr. Splinter served as Director of Chemical & Environmental Processes at BC Research, where he built and managed a team of scientists, engineers and technologists providing contract R&D services to various clients in the area of chemical and biochemical process development. Dr. Splinter is an expert in interfacial phenomena, having earned a Ph.D. in Engineering Science in 1994. He has authored or co-authored numerous scientific publications and patents and has been invited as a speaker at international science conferences. In 2003, Dr. Splinter was awarded a prestigious 5NR Science Award for Leadership in Sustainable Development for his work in advancing MAP(TM).

Sagar Kadali PhD- Director of Research, Product Development

Dr. Kadali has over twenty years experience in senior research and management roles with early stage drug companies and natural product extract companies. He has extensive knowledge of the isolation of natural medicinal products and fundamental organic chemistry, having developed numerous processes for the extraction, purification and isolation of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical ingredients from natural sources. Dr. Kadali is also experienced with the management and implementation of Quality Systems and GMP processes.

Richard Bordeleau – Senior VP Business Development

Richard Bordeleau has significant experience in market development, strategic alliances for the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and nutrition industries. He has served as President of Atrium Innovations Health and Nutrition division, EVP of BioCad Medical and was the  Senior VP, Corporate Development at Aeterna Zentaris

 

Stéphane Gagné, MSc. – Director, Strategic Partnerships

Stéphane has over 15 years of experience in the fields of cosmetics, nutritional supplements, pharmaceutical products and active ingredients.  He previously held the position of VP Sales and Marketing (Asia) and Director Sales and Marketing (Nutrition) for Atrium Biotechnologies and was the Director Sales and Marketing for Aeterna-Zentaris

 

Prof. Dr. J. R. Jocelyn Paré, MSM – Expert Consultant

As a Director General with Environment Canada, Dr. Paré led the team that developed the MAP™ technology.  An prolific inventor and world-renowned expert in microwave chemistry, Jocelyn Paré has been recognized with numerous awards for his development of MAP “green technologies”, including Government of Canada Meritorious Service Medal in 2003.

 

Brian Alguire, CMA – General Manager

Brian Alguire has extensive Financial and Operational experience in a variety of Industries, including Pulp manufacturing, Lumber and Forestry, Retail Finance and the Alberta Innovation community.  Prior to joining Radient Technologies, Mr. Alguire was Vice President-Finance with the billion dollar Alberta Ingenuity Fund. He also held positions including Controller, General Manager and was the President of a TSX-Venture exchange listed company.  He holds an MBA in Finance and is a Certified Management Accountant.

Milo Fisher – Project Manager

Milo Fisher has over 15 years of experience in the biotechnology industry including production of commercial active pharmaceutical ingredients, scale-up, technology transfer and contract manufacturing. He is well versed in scheduling and overseeing all manufacturing operations under full cGMP as well as ensuring that all manufacturing staff are fully trained to operate unit equipment under GMP guidelines. Additionally, he provides solid leadership to materials management and related manufacturing support operations. He held positions with Apotex Fermentation, SYNSORB Biotech Inc. KS Avicenna and QSV Biologics Ltd. Currently, Milo is overseeing the construction and fit-up of the new ingredient manufacturing facility capable of processing 5 tons of material under ISO and GMP.

Ms. Madelaine Lussier, B.Sc – Quality Assurance/Quality Control Manager

Ms. Lussier has over 10 years of experience in the biotechnology, bio-pharmaceutical, and natural health products (NHPs) industries.  She has experience in Production, Process Development, Assay Development, Quality Control, and Quality Assurance in multi-product contract manufacturing.  Prior to joining Radient Technologies she held roles with the Biotechnology Business Unit at the Alberta Research Council, QSV Biologics, and at Afexa Life Sciences.  Ms. Lussier holds a Bachelor of Science Degree with Specialization in Microbiology from the University of Alberta.

Board of Directors

Chairman of the Board – Armand Lavoie

Mr. Lavoie is Managing Director of Foragen Technologies Management Inc. Based in Saskatoon, he is responsible for the management of the fund, evaluating and managing investments in companies developing and commercializing advanced agri-food technologies. Prior to joining Foragen, he was with KPMG, a global consultancy firm, specializing in their life sciences practice area. In his role with KPMG, he consulted extensively with agri-life science companies in their start-up, early commercialization and growth phases. Additionally, Mr. Lavoie consulted directly to several of the global agri-life science corporations on critical strategic and operational issues. Mr. Lavoie specializes in bio-processing, nutraceuticals and functional foods. His development expertise includes business plans, performance improvement programs, business transformation models, market assessments, strategic alliances and operational reviews. Mr. Lavoie holds a B. Sc. from the University of Alberta and an MBA from Sherbrooke/London Business School and he is a P. Ag. Mr. Lavoie has lived and worked in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Mexico. 

Mike Cabigon

Mr. Cabigon is Managing Partner of Foundation Equity, an Edmonton-based venture capital fund.  As Managing Partner, Mike oversees Foundation’s short and long-term investment initiatives and actively works with portfolio companies on strategy, marketing, financing and operations.  He is currently a Director of Preo Software Inc., DriveAble Assessment Centres Inc., Tal Ltd. Rocketfuel Games Inc. and is a Board Observer of McCoy Corporation.

Prior to Foundation, Mike held senior positions in business development, strategy and operations in the utility and telecommunications industries.  Mike holds a B. Comm from the University of Alberta.

Chris Lumb

Chris Lumb, P.Eng., is the Chief Executive Officer of TEC Edmonton. He was appointed to that position in November, 2009. Prior to that Mr. Lumb was the President and CEO of Micralyne Inc. from 1994 to 2009. After graduating from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering in 1982, Mr. Lumb’s career has been centered around leadership of technology companies to ensure they are profitably focused on addressing market needs, and on building long-term commercial success for emerging technologies. Mr. Lumb was involved in all aspects of Micralyne’s development, including leading its transition from a university-owned not-for-profit to a privately held commercial company generating long-term revenue growth throughout the company’s history, and delivering profitable net income and return on equity since the company’s inception. He has been directly involved in major business development initiatives that have resulted in the company having long-term relationships in place with market leading customers. In 2009 Micralyne was identified as the world’s largest independent MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) foundry. Prior to Micralyne, Mr. Lumb was employed in several advanced technology organizations, including the Alberta Research Council and Gellman Hayward and Partners. Mr. Lumb also serves on the Board of Directors of CMC Microsystems, the Board of Trustees of the National Institute for Nanotechnology, on the Board of Directors of ACAMP, and on the Board of the MEMS Industry Group (MIG).

Wolfgang Muhs

Dr. Muhs is an experienced executive from the fine chemical industry. He began his career in R&D at Terochem Laboratories which subsequently acquired Raylo Chemicals in Edmonton, Alberta where Wolfgang became Manager of Research and Development. After the acquisition of Raylo Chemicals by Laporte PLC, Dr. Muhs was appointed President of Raylo Chemicals, which had become a leading-edge company specializing in the medium to large-scale custom manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients. In 1999, Wolfgang accepted a transfer to Germany to head Laporte’s global Catalysts and Initiators business.

In 2002, Wolfgang returned to Alberta from Germany, becoming involved in venture investing, followed by a stint as VP Custom Manufacturing & Intermediates for Rhodia Pharma Solutions in England, and from 2006 has been Chairman and Acting CEO Innovotech Inc. of Edmonton, a publicly-traded biotechnology firm he helped found while venture investing. Dr. Muhs obtained his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the Universität Innsbruck in Austria and his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Universität Konstanz in Germany.

Ian Newton

Ian Newton was born and received his education in New Zealand, graduating with science degrees in Botany and Zoology. Following post graduate work he relocated to Canada. Mr. Newton joined Hoffmann-La Roche in 1979, holding a variety of positions including Group Director, Human Nutrition, Canada, and eventually Director of Business Development and Regulatory Affairs, DSM Nutritional Products, USA. Ian was responsible for the development of various nutrients, new ingredients and also directed nutrition public information programs as a resource for health professionals, academics and the media. He has also published on the dietary and nutritional aspects of vitamins, long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids and nutraceuticals in a variety of scientific journals. Now retired from DSM, Ian manages his own consulting business, Ceres Consulting, based in Markham, Ontario Canada, specializing in business and product development in the health and nutrition sector. Ian actively participates in many areas of human nutrition and is a member of the CRN, AOCS, ISSFAL and IFT, and is involved in Advisory and Boards of Directors positions in health oriented companies, and nutrition related institutions.
